DEAR READER
Dear Reader,
The Titanic has always been an interesting, important topic to me and I wanted to share my interests. Ever since I was little I've learned every year in school about the RMS Titanic. Supposedly, it was the most luxurious, beautiful ship in the world, and yet was also the biggest.
We always only learned the basics, that it had hit an iceberg, carried a lot of people, and killed a lot of people when it sank. However, we never truly learned the backbone of the story. Who was on the boat, how much work went in to making the boat, and why is it so important? No one ever explained the answers of these questions to me when I was younger which made me question the importance of the so called unsinkable ship.
Before my research, I knew quite a bit about the Titanic. Of course I've seen the movie, which doesn't hold as much truth as one could hope, but I've also researched on my own and even watched late night documentaries on the Titanic. The Titanic was such a tragedy because it was just a simple mistake that could have been avoided. Sure there were things that would have made the loss less tragic if the incident were to happen but no one thought the ship could sink, which was the first problem.
My goals for this research project were to mainly find out more about the people on board and how the sinking of the ship impacted our lives now. For researching I only used the internet because it was the easiest research source with endless amounts of information, especially about the Titanic.
Through my research I learned about the people on board of the ship when it sank, about the timeline of the making and building of the Titanic, and about the impact of the sinking today. Because of what happened, it seems no one wants to make another ship like this. Even cruise ships now aren't this big, although they don't need to be because they will never have to carry as much as the Titanic did. Of course times have changed that there is no need for ships that big but it seems even if there were, people would be too afraid to make one.
My research, not only during this project but during my entire life, has greatly influenced my ideas and views on the Titanic and the tragedy that stroke. I believe my research will also help people be more informed on the Titanic and the sinking of it, instead of basing their ideas on false information or glorified blockbusters.
Sincerely,
Hannah Gruber
